The Acting General Manager of the Kaduna State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Yahaya Victor, has commended Governor Uba Sani for reintroducing the end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise across the state.
Victor, who spoke while monitoring a mock clean-up activity by the agency in Kaduna metropolis, said the initiative would help ensure a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment necessary for human health and ecosystem balance.
He explained that the full-scale monthly exercise, scheduled to begin in November 2025, would involve a total restriction of movement and the imposition of fines on defaulters.
The KEPA boss urged residents to support the state government’s efforts by keeping their surroundings clean, both within and outside their homes, to promote a healthy environment.
“We have gone round key areas across the city to sensitize residents on the need to prepare for the monthly environmental sanitation exercise,” he said.
“The sensitization started from our corporate headquarters along Kachia Road and extended to Gonin-Gora, a gateway to the city from the South, with stopovers at Command and NNPC Junctions, where motorists and pedestrians were enlightened on the return of the clean-up exercise and its benefits.”
He noted that the sanitation exercise would hold on the last Saturday of every month, during which residents are expected to remain at home between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to clean their surroundings.
Victor said the reintroduction of the exercise followed the governor’s directive through the State Commissioner for Environment, adding that it would be implemented in collaboration with all stakeholders, including the media, to ensure adequate awareness and mobilization.

He added that the exercise would be conducted across all 23 local government areas of the state, with strict monitoring to ensure full compliance by residents.
While condemning the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways and open spaces, Victor warned residents to desist from such practices and comply fully when the monthly exercise takes off next month.
