The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has disclosed that the agenda of terrorist groups Boko Haram and ISWAP goes beyond attacking Christians, stressing that their ultimate goal is to Islamise Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu, stated this on Monday in Abuja while presenting the October 2025 Human Rights Situation Dashboard, an evidence-based report that tracks patterns of human rights violations across the country.
Ojukwu’s statement comes in response to a recent remark by United States President Donald Trump, who threatened to intervene in Nigeria over alleged genocide against Christians.
“Boko Haram’s killings aim at Islamising Nigeria and affect both Christians and Muslims alike,” Ojukwu said.
“While it is true that extremists have targeted Christian civilians in parts of the country, citizens from other faiths have also been victims.”
