The Yobe State Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu, has lauded Governor Mai Mala Buni for approving N7.9 billion to settle the backlog of gratuities for retirees of the state and local governments.
Alhaji Alhassan Mamudo, Spokesman for the HoS, said the payment covers the period from January 2020 to May 2025.

Shehu spoke on Wednesday in Lagos while receiving an “Award of Excellence” from the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) on behalf of the governor. He described the payment as a demonstration of Buni’s commitment to workers’ welfare, adding that it would boost human capital development and public service transformation.
The HoS also commended the governor for ensuring prompt payment of salaries, provision of affordable housing, payment of furniture allowances, and distribution of welfare materials to workers.
“The Buni-led administration has strengthened the state civil service through recruitment and training programs within and outside Nigeria,” Shehu said.
Alhaji Bulama Yusuf, Focal Person for Training and Succession Planning, said the governor directed the creation of a succession plan and training guide for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He added that 34 Permanent Secretaries at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) and 149 civil servants at ASCON are currently undergoing training.
