A 12-year-old girl, identified as Nabilat, died on Saturday after falling into a domestic well at Busari Alao Street in the Ikoyi area of Irewolede, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred around 10:35 a.m. while the girl was reportedly fetching water.
The Kwara State Fire Service, in a statement by its spokesperson, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the victim’s body was recovered by firefighters and handed over to her family.

Adekunle said the service received a distress call from a resident, identified as Mr. Mayowa, who witnessed the moment the girl slipped.
“The girl went to fetch water and in the process, one of her legs slipped, causing her to fall into the well,” the statement read.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, described the incident as unfortunate and cautioned parents against sending minors to fetch water from wells.
