The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has expelled former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; ex-Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; former National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu; and several other high-profile members over allegations of persistent anti-party activities.
The decision was reached during an emergency NEC meeting held on Friday in Abuja, where the committee reviewed petitions and reports detailing actions said to have undermined the party’s interests in recent political cycles.
Sources at the meeting told The NEWSPOINTER that the session was tense, with members debating the extent of the alleged violations and their impact on party stability. They noted that many of the issues raised had lingered for months without resolution.
One senior NEC member said the expulsions were considered necessary to reinforce discipline and rebuild the party’s internal cohesion ahead of future elections. According to him, the leadership resolved that individuals working against collective decisions could no longer remain within the party structure.
Another official disclosed that the affected members were found to have openly supported rival political interests and disregarded directives from the national leadership during key electoral contests. He said several reconciliation efforts failed to produce meaningful results.
As of the time of filing this report, none of the expelled leaders had issued a formal response. However, close associates hinted that some of them may challenge the decision through internal channels or the courts, depending on legal advice.
Political analysts following the development described the decision as a major shake-up within the PDP, noting that the expelled figures wield considerable influence in their respective states. They added that the move could reshape political alliances in the coming months.
