The newly inaugurated Chairman of Bali Local Government Council in Taraba State, Hon. Habila Bala Balasa, has ordered the immediate suspension of all lumbering activities across the council area.
Balasa also announced the dissolution of the existing revenue committee, warning that his administration would not condone illegal revenue collection or the exploitation of traders and residents.
The chairman issued the directives while addressing stakeholders shortly after assuming office on Thursday. He said his administration would prioritise transparency, accountability and the protection of public resources.
Balasa, who attributed his victory to God, assured that workers’ salaries would remain untouched under his leadership. He cautioned individuals and groups against diverting government revenue or extorting citizens in the name of the council.
“I will not go to any market asking for money, and I will not allow anyone to collect illegal levies on behalf of the council,” he said. “Anyone caught extorting our people will face the full force of the law.”
He also urged youths, associations and community leaders to remain disciplined and support the development agenda of the local government.
Balasa thanked residents for their support and promised an administration anchored on fairness, justice and accountability.
Earlier, the outgoing Chairman of Bali LGA, Hon. Aboki Dauda, expressed appreciation to the legislative arm and residents for their support throughout his tenure, saying their cooperation enabled gains in security, education, health, agriculture and infrastructure.
Dauda commended the lawmakers for standing by his administration “through thick and thin,” describing their commitment as vital to the progress recorded.
He congratulated his successor on a “well-deserved victory,” noting that the people’s overwhelming support reflected Balasa’s leadership qualities and devotion to service.
“I have no doubt that you will lead with vision, fairness and inclusiveness. As I step aside, I assure you of my full support and readiness to offer guidance whenever necessary. Governance is a continuous process,” he added.
Dauda appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and stakeholders—regardless of political or religious affiliation—to unite behind the new administration for the progress of Bali.
Meanwhile, the incoming chairman, Hon. Habila Bala-Balasa, received prayers and blessings from the Member representing Bali I and II State Constituency, Veronica Alhassan.
Alhassan urged him to rely on divine guidance in the discharge of his duties.
“Without the Holy Spirit, you can do nothing. We pray that God Almighty will grant you wisdom, protection and direction to lead the people of Bali successfully,” she said.
