The Chartered Institute of Statisticians of Nigeria (CISON) has opened talks with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to boost collaboration on data-driven policymaking.

A delegation from CISON’s Governing Council met NIPSS Director-General, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, at the Institute’s Kuru headquarters, presenting the Institute’s expanded mandate under the CISON Act, 2022.

CISON said the meeting aimed to ensure Nigeria’s policies are grounded in high-quality, professionally generated data. The Institute highlighted its regulatory role, ethical standards, and nationwide capacity-building programmes for statisticians.

Both sides identified key areas for collaboration, including data utilisation in policy design, strategic analysis, and evidence-based governance. They agreed that reliable data is central to Nigeria’s development ambitions.

Prof. Omotayo welcomed the initiative, stressing that integrating robust statistics with strategic policymaking would enhance the impact of national development plans.
