A media-based civil society organisation, the Journalists for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD), has organised a Stand Still Action at the Dogon Yaro Roundabout, Bauchi, to protest the rising incidence of digital violence against women and girls.
The action, held as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, drew activists and supporters who displayed placards calling for safe online spaces, digital respect and stronger protection for women and girls.
Speaking at the event, J4PD Executive Director, Elizabeth Carr, said the standstill symbolised collective resistance against harassment, cyberbullying, identity theft and image abuse faced by women in digital spaces.
“Today, we stand still — not in silence, but in strength. We stand for every girl whose voice has been attacked online and for every woman whose pictures were misused and dignity violated. Digital spaces must be safe spaces. Enough harassment, enough cyberbullying,” she said.
Carr called on government agencies, lawmakers and technology companies to strengthen laws and policies that protect users online. She also advocated digital literacy programmes for girls in schools and communities, as well as a cultural shift that rejects online shaming and harassment.
She warned that without urgent action, millions of women and girls would remain vulnerable to emerging forms of abuse in digital spaces.
J4PD said it would continue to engage policymakers and communities until both online and offline environments become safe for all.

The organisation noted that the Stand Still Action is one of several activities lined up during the 16 Days of Activism to raise awareness on the growing threat of gender-based violence in its evolving forms.
