Defence Minister – Dec. 3nd 2025

A Gombe-based politician and philanthropist, Rambi Ibrahim Ayala, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing retired General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, describing the move as placing “a square peg in a square hole.”

Ayala, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State, said the appointment reflects strategic foresight at a time when Nigerians are demanding competence and effectiveness in governance, particularly in the security sector.

He noted that the President’s decision demonstrates a preference for experience and professionalism over political considerations, adding that national defence requires leadership with firsthand operational knowledge.

Ayala, a former two-term member of the Gombe State House of Assembly and ex-state chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, said Musa’s appointment would help bridge the gap between security policy and operational realities.

According to him, the Defence Minister’s extensive military background, spanning command, joint operations and peace-building initiatives, positions him to better address the country’s security challenges, including insurgency and banditry.

He expressed optimism that the appointment would strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture, improve coordination across the armed forces and inspire public confidence.

Ayala added that the decision was timely and well-aligned with the country’s current security needs, urging sustained support for policies aimed at restoring stability nationwide.
