The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Ministry of Education to immediately reverse recent curriculum adjustments that led to the removal of several key subjects from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal.
Lawmakers expressed concern that the omission of these subjects could disrupt students’ academic progress and adversely affect their preparedness for higher education and future career opportunities.
During a plenary session, the House Committee on Education emphasised that such sudden changes could undermine the quality of education in the country.

The committee noted that students and schools depend on the WAEC portal for subject selection and examination preparations, and abrupt modifications could lead to confusion and setbacks.
Members urged the ministry to consult with key stakeholders, including educators, school administrators, and curriculum experts, to ensure that any future curriculum revisions are carefully planned and effectively communicated.
The House warned that failure to reinstate the affected subjects could prompt closer legislative scrutiny and further intervention to safeguard students’ interests.
Lawmakers concluded by stressing the need for prompt action, noting that maintaining the integrity and continuity of education should remain a top national priority.
