The Kwara State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its fight against violent crime, arresting multiple suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, homicide, cultism, and illegal arms movement. Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the operations were driven by intelligence-led policing and the support of residents across the state.
“These arrests are a clear indication that criminals will find no safe haven in Kwara State. We remain committed to hunting them down wherever they hide,” Ojo said during a security briefing in Ilorin on Friday.
In a notable case, 52-year-old Olatunji Samson was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a violent robbery at Maigida Estate, Amoyo, on November 21. Samson and his gang allegedly attempted to sell a stolen Lexus RX-350 for N15 million after carting away cash, valuables, and luxury items during a home invasion. Two stolen vehicles were recovered, and the suspect admitted to receiving four stolen vehicles from the gang previously. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members.
Other arrests include 26-year-old Yusuf Ibrahim, who allegedly murdered a hotel staff, Opeyemi Bello, in Ilorin after attempting a robbery, and two armed robbery suspects, Ibrahim Abubakar and Dele Emmanuel, who reportedly raped a woman during a robbery on Basin Road. Their gang leader, Imole Toyin, remains at large.
Police also intercepted a Toyota Corolla on Gbugbu–Patigi Road carrying four men and 100 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, preventing a deadly arms delivery. Additionally, suspected kidnapper Aliu Abubakar was arrested at Oro-Ago Motor Park, while a 40-year-old woman abducted from Obate Village was rescued after her captors abandoned her following a police advance.
Other notable arrests include ex-convict Godday Agaadi, caught impersonating a police officer while attempting to steal a turkey, and several suspected cultists linked to attacks at Kwara State Polytechnic and other areas. Weapons recovered included an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, battle axes, cut-to-size cutlasses, and charms allegedly used in cult activities.
Ojo praised residents for their vigilance and cooperation, noting that community support has been crucial in these successes. He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for operational support, adding: “We will sustain this momentum and ensure Kwara remains peaceful, safe, and secure.”
