Kebbi State Governor has approved the sum of N10 billion to secure additional Hajj slots for intending pilgrims in the state, Radio Nigeria reports. The intervention follows a surge in applications that exceeded the initial allocation provided by national authorities.
According to officials, the governor’s approval is aimed at ensuring that no eligible and fully registered pilgrim is left out of the 2026 Hajj exercise. The state government said the move reflects its commitment to supporting residents in fulfilling their religious obligations.
The Kebbi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board disclosed that the state recorded unusually high interest ahead of the 2026 pilgrimage. The agency noted that the volume of applications created pressure on the available slots, making government intervention necessary.

Part of the N10 billion, the Board explained, will fund logistics and key welfare components such as transportation, accommodation and feeding arrangements in Saudi Arabia. The agency said the early release of funds will help streamline preparations and reduce last-minute challenges.
Officials also confirmed ongoing engagements with the National Hajj Commission and other relevant bodies to fast-track the allocation of the additional slots. They said the cooperation is crucial to ensuring a smooth and well-coordinated process for the intending pilgrims.
Community leaders have lauded the state government for responding promptly to the needs of the Muslim population. They urged the Pilgrims Board to uphold fairness and transparency in the distribution of the extra slots.
