Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has reiterated his commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians displaced by insurgency. He made the pledge during a visit to Minawao Camp in Cameroon, which hosts over 12,000 Nigerians who have lived there for more than a decade.
During the visit, Governor Zulum engaged directly with camp residents, hearing firsthand about their struggles. Mrs. Amina Abubakar, a resident since 2014, said, “We have waited so long to return home. We pray for the day we can rebuild our lives in peace.” Yusuf Ali, another displaced father, appealed for support for his children’s education, adding, “Education is the only hope we have for a better future.”
The governor expressed concern over the prolonged displacement and assured residents that the Borno State government would continue efforts to ensure their safety and dignity. He highlighted initiatives aimed at rehabilitation, including skills acquisition programs and livelihood projects for returnees.
Governor Zulum also called on the international community and host governments to maintain support for displaced Nigerians, emphasizing that their safe and dignified return is critical for rebuilding communities ravaged by insurgency.
He stressed that the government remains committed to restoring normalcy, providing access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for returnees. “No one should be left behind,” he said, “we will do everything to bring hope back to these communities.”
The visit underscores Borno State’s focus on humanitarian assistance and its determination to address the challenges posed by over a decade of insurgency, ensuring that victims regain their dignity and a chance to rebuild their lives.
