India and Nigeria have agreed to deepen defence cooperation in a move aimed at enhancing military collaboration and addressing regional security challenges.

Officials said the partnership will focus on joint training exercises, technology transfer, and exchange of expertise to strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities. “This collaboration reflects the commitment of both nations to maintain peace and stability in their regions,” an Indian Defence Ministry official said.

The Nigerian Ministry of Defence described the agreement as a boost to ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s armed forces, particularly in counter-terrorism, maritime security, and border protection.

The initiative will include high-level visits, workshops, and defence dialogues to ensure effective implementation of joint programmes. Both countries also plan to share intelligence and develop sustainable defence cooperation.

Nigeria’s Defence Minister said the partnership offers the chance to leverage India’s experience in modern warfare and logistics to strengthen national security. He assured full government support for initiatives under the collaboration.
