Panic gripped Dinya community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area following a fresh bandit attack on Tuesday, raising concerns over escalating insecurity in the region.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants struck in the early hours, targeting homes and farmlands, forcing residents to flee. The attack also disrupted life in neighbouring villages including Gomben Ndela, Rafintaba, Garau, and Jeb Jeb.
Security agencies have placed the affected communities on high alert. Local vigilante groups and police units are reportedly conducting intensified patrols to prevent further attacks.
A statement from the Taraba State Police Command confirmed receipt of distress calls and assured that tactical teams had been deployed to the affected areas. The command warned that operations against the bandits would continue until normalcy is restored.
Community leaders appealed to the state government for urgent support, including additional security personnel and equipment. “Residents are living in fear. Immediate action is needed to protect lives and property,” one leader said.
The attack comes amid rising banditry across Taraba, with repeated raids in remote communities causing widespread panic. Analysts warn that without sustained intervention, such attacks may become more frequent.
Displaced residents are calling on humanitarian organisations for support as they grapple with the aftermath of the attack, while security agencies remain on high alert across the affected areas.
