BREAKING: Defence Headquarters Orders Immediate Removal of Non-Essential Roadblocks Nationwide

Roadblocks – Dec. 11, 2025

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has directed the immediate dismantling of all non-essential roadblocks mounted by troops across the country, signalling a renewed push to ease movement and reinforce public confidence in military operations.

The directive, issued on Thursday in Abuja, follows a fresh operational review of checkpoints along major highways and vulnerable corridors. Senior military sources confirmed that only security-critical and strategically approved roadblocks will remain in place.

According to the DHQ, the decision is part of ongoing efforts to streamline internal security operations, eliminate unnecessary delays for travellers, and support the federal government’s drive to boost economic activities through unhindered transportation of goods and services.

Troops manning the remaining checkpoints have been reminded to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, respect human rights and maintain courteous engagement with citizens.

The military also urged members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any unprofessional conduct as the enforcement of the new directive begins nationwide.
