Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has urged graduates of Kwara State University (KWASU) to deploy their education in driving positive societal change, describing knowledge as a responsibility that must translate into impact.
The governor gave the charge at the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the university held in Malete, where he was represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu. He congratulated the graduands, university management and parents, describing the event as a celebration of excellence and resilience.
AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning the education sector, noting that KWASU has benefited from sustained investments in academic development and infrastructure. He cited the establishment of the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses as key milestones that have expanded access to higher education across the state.
According to the governor, government investments in modern learning facilities, digital infrastructure and research are aimed at preparing students for global competitiveness. He also highlighted strategic partnerships between the university and initiatives such as the Innovation Hub and Sugar Factory Film Studio, which he said are promoting innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Addressing the graduands, AbdulRazaq urged them to see their certificates as a call to service rather than an endpoint. “Your education is a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to your communities and the nation. The world needs solution providers, not spectators,” he said.9
He also appealed to parents and guardians to continue to support their children after graduation, urging patience and guidance as they pursue career and business aspirations.
The Chancellor of KWASU, Engr. Dr. Johnson Bamidele Adewumi, commended the governor for his sustained support for the university, particularly in infrastructure and academic development, noting that the expansion of the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses and improved access roads have enhanced teaching, research and community engagement.
Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, praised the state government for completing critical projects, including the Teaching Hospital, which he described as vital to strengthening academic and professional training.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh, urged the 8,119 graduates, including 82 First Class degree holders and 75 PhD recipients, to embrace resilience, optimism and service to humanity.
He added that as KWASU marks 16 years of existence, the institution remains committed to expanding access to quality education and strengthening academic delivery in Kwara State and beyond.
