The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, on Wednesday swore in newly appointed Magistrates and Area Court Judges, charging them to uphold impartiality, accountability and the fear of God in the discharge of their duties.
Justice Agya gave the charge at the Swearing-In Ceremony of Magistrates and Area Court Members held in Jalingo, stressing that Magistrate and Area Courts form the foundation and frontline of the justice system.

According to him, these courts are the first point of contact for the majority of citizens, especially those in rural and semi-urban communities, and therefore represent the most accessible symbols of justice, fairness and the rule of law.
“For many of our people, your courts are not only the nearest geographically but also the most visible face of justice. The manner in which you conduct proceedings, treat litigants and determine cases largely shapes public perception of the judiciary,” he said.
The Chief Judge described the ceremony as a defining moment in the professional lives of the judicial officers and a significant milestone in the administration of justice in the state.
“By the oath you have taken to uphold the Constitution, apply the law without fear or favour, affection or ill-will, and dispense justice with integrity, diligence and impartiality, you have accepted a sacred responsibility,” Justice Agya added.
He assured the newly sworn-in officers of continuous capacity building to enhance efficiency and service delivery, while warning that corruption and any form of compromise of justice would not be tolerated in the state judiciary.
In his remarks, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Maikasuwa, urged the judicial officers to ensure that justice is served in their various jurisdictions. He congratulated them on their appointments and commended the Chief Judge for injecting young and vibrant professionals into the bench.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in officers, Magistrate Nafiu Garba thanked the Chief Judge for finding them worthy of appointment, assuring that they would not fail the judiciary or the people of the state.
The Newspointer reports that two Magistrates and seven Area Court Judges were sworn in during the ceremony.
