The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday distributed relief materials to victims of recent flood disasters in Jalingo and Yorro Local Government Areas of Taraba State.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who was represented by Mr. Yusuf Attach, Assistant Chief Search and Rescue Officer, Yola Operations Office, said the intervention aimed to provide immediate support to affected families and communities.
She noted that the exercise was part of the Federal Government’s response to flood incidents, stressing that the provision of food and non-food items demonstrated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s concern for Nigerians affected by natural disasters.
Umar urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the items, describing them as relief support intended to cushion the impact of the floods during the festive season.
In his remarks, the Member representing Jalingo, Zing and Yorro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Sadiq Abass, commended the Federal Government for the quick intervention. Represented by Alhaji Saad Sambo, Senior Legislative Officer to the Speaker, Abass said the gesture reflected the vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration and advised beneficiaries not to sell the items.
Beneficiaries, including Mr. David Musa and Mrs. Mariam Isa, thanked the government and Abass for ensuring the relief materials reached them. They assured that the items would be used to support their families during the yuletide.
NEWSPOINTER reports that the relief materials distributed included rice, maize, vegetable oil, Maggi, tomato paste, blankets, salt, and clothing items, among others.
