A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Chief Ben Adaji, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take firm action against individuals opposing recent United States military strikes on terrorist targets in parts of Nigeria, describing such opposition as detrimental to national security.
Adaji made the call in Jalingo on Saturday following reactions from some clerics and public figures after reported US airstrikes on terrorist enclaves in parts of North-west Nigeria.
He said Nigeria has suffered immense human and economic losses from terrorist activities, adding that condemning efforts aimed at dismantling such groups raises serious concerns.
“The damage caused by these terrorists is immeasurable, in terms of lives lost, property destroyed and the country’s image,” Adaji said, arguing that there should be no negotiations with armed groups responsible for violence.
He urged the federal government to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and called on the United States to sustain its counter-terrorism efforts in Nigeria.
Adaji also appealed to the President and the National Security Adviser to ensure the prosecution of individuals found to be supporting terrorist activities, warning against politicising insecurity.
While commending security agencies for their efforts, he called for sustained government support and stronger international cooperation to restore peace and safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.
