Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has declared 2026 as a year of peace, progress and prosperity, assuring residents of renewed commitment to security, inclusive governance and accelerated development across the state.
The governor gave the assurance in his New Year address to the people of Taraba State on Wednesday, stressing that his administration would maintain zero tolerance for violence, extremism and criminality.
Kefas said no part of the state would be allowed to remain ungoverned or serve as a haven for criminal activities, adding that security agencies had been fully empowered and coordinated to protect lives, property and livelihoods.
He identified food security, livestock reform and land administration as major priorities for 2026, noting that Taraba State must attain sustainable self-sufficiency in food production while contributing to national food supply.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modern livestock management practices anchored on ranching, improved veterinary services and conflict prevention, alongside transparent and equitable land reforms.
On mining, Kefas said although Taraba State respects the constitutional authority of the Federal Government over solid minerals, the state would not tolerate illegal mining, environmental degradation or the use of mineral routes to finance insecurity.
He disclosed that the state government was collaborating with relevant federal agencies to ensure that mining activities are lawful, environmentally responsible, security-compliant and beneficial to host communities.
The governor also said his administration would sustain investments in education, infrastructure, healthcare, energy and grassroots development, with emphasis on extending government presence to rural and hard-to-reach communities.
Kefas further pledged to revive cultural activities and strengthen sports development to promote unity, youth engagement and social cohesion, describing the state’s diversity as a strength.
Addressing misinformation, the governor urged residents to rely on verified information and shun incitement, reiterating his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“2026 will be a year of peace with strength, progress with purpose and prosperity with inclusion,” he said, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths and other stakeholders to work collectively for the development of the state.
