A civil society organisation, the Centre for Public Accountability and Reform (CPAR), has urged the Federal Government to expedite action on the full implementation of the Oronsaye Report, describing it as a critical pathway to improved governance, fiscal discipline and efficient service delivery.
The Centre, in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, said the prolonged delay in implementing the report has continued to fuel waste, inefficiency and duplication of functions across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to CPAR, the Oronsaye Report provides a comprehensive framework for restructuring the public service by streamlining MDAs with overlapping mandates, a move it said would significantly reduce the cost of governance.
The group noted that although successive administrations have repeatedly acknowledged the relevance of the report, the absence of decisive action has undermined public trust in government-led reform initiatives.
It argued that savings from the implementation of the report could be redirected to priority sectors such as education, healthcare, security and infrastructure development.
“The Oronsaye Report offers a clear roadmap for a lean, transparent and efficient public sector. Its implementation will promote accountability and ensure optimal utilisation of public resources,” the statement said.
The Centre also called on the Federal Government to engage labour unions, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders to ensure a smooth and inclusive implementation process that balances reforms with workers’ welfare.
It further urged the National Assembly to provide the necessary legislative support to facilitate the effective execution of the report’s recommendations.
CPAR expressed optimism that swift action on the Oronsaye Report would demonstrate the government’s commitment to good governance, economic reform and sustainable national development.
