Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has said his emergence as governor was shaped by sacrifice, perseverance, and divine purpose, stressing that his administration exists to serve the people and not for personal gain.
Speaking with media practitioners in Jalingo, the governor recounted the challenges that preceded his election, including legal battles, personal development, and a brief but intense campaign period.
“It was not easy when I look at where I was coming from, what I went through to get the ticket, the legal battles, and the effort to educate myself to contest,” he said.
“The campaign period was very short, barely one week, yet we won. I know God has a plan.”
Kefas noted that his military background, exposure, and resources must be used to benefit the people of Taraba State. “I have no business being in government other than to serve the people. Everyone has a role to play; I cannot do your work for you,” he stated.
He stressed the importance of transparency, collective responsibility, and media presence in governance.
According to the governor, the media helps safeguard both the government and citizens by ensuring clarity and accountability.
“That is why I prefer that whenever I hold meetings, the media must be present. They defend the people and also protect the government,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment to open governance, Kefas said he has no hidden agenda and that leadership is temporary. “I know I have a time frame. When I am done, someone else will come. Nothing is permanent, even life itself. Whatever I do must be justified,” he added.
On security, the governor disclosed plans to declare certain areas as special security concern zones, calling on the media to assist in sensitising the public for better understanding and cooperation.
He concluded by urging sustained partnership between the government and the media, expressing optimism that the year would strengthen collaboration in public enlightenment, security awareness, and development across Taraba State.
