Hajj Gazette Set to Debut, Strengthen Reporting on Hajj Operations

A new specialised media platform, Hajj Gazette, is set to debut with a mandate to provide rigorous, independent, and factual reporting on Hajj and Umrah operations, while countering misinformation within Nigeria’s Hajj sector.

The Editor-in-Chief of the publication, Malam Auwal Ahmed Umar, disclosed that the initiative is the brainchild of a group of journalists motivated by concerns over persistent information gaps and credibility challenges that have continued to trail Hajj administration in the country.

Auwal Ahmed, a media scholar and public affairs analyst, said the platform was conceived in response to recurring confusion in Nigeria’s Hajj space, often characterised by unverified claims, misleading narratives, and sustained attacks that have weakened public confidence and unsettled intending pilgrims.

He explained that Hajj Gazette would function as a public-interest newsroom, prioritising accuracy, context, and accountability across the full spectrum of Hajj-related affairs, including policy formulation, operations, aviation, accommodation, health and welfare, pilgrim education, and institutional reforms.

“Hajj is a sacred obligation and a matter of national responsibility,” Auwal Ahmed said. “It deserves reporting that is careful, factual, and respectful of its spiritual weight. Hajj Gazette exists to inform, not to inflame, and to protect pilgrims from the harm caused by false or distorted information.”

According to him, the platform will combine straight news reporting, investigative journalism, and explanatory analysis, alongside human-interest stories that reflect the lived experiences of pilgrims.

He further noted that the editorial team comprises experienced reporters, editors, and analysts with strong backgrounds in religious affairs, governance, and public policy, adding that the organisation is committed to editorial independence and adherence to the highest professional standards, guided by journalistic ethics, national interest, and Islamic values.

Auwal Ahmed stressed that Hajj Gazette would neither serve as a mouthpiece nor adopt an adversarial posture for its own sake, but would focus on scrutiny, clarification, and highlighting reforms that genuinely improve pilgrim welfare.

He called on stakeholders, scholars, regulators, and the wider Muslim community to support credible journalism and verify information before dissemination, warning that misinformation undermines institutions and disrupts the spiritual focus of intending pilgrims.

The publication is expected to roll out content across digital platforms, print formats, and social media channels.
