The Maternal Accountability Mechanism in Kaduna Initiative (KADMAM) has underscored the critical role of media collaboration in advancing Family Planning (FP) and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) in Kaduna State.
Speaking during a strategic media parley in Kaduna, the Co-Chair of KADMAM, Garba Muhammad, commended the Kaduna State Government for its unwavering commitment to strengthening the health system and improving the wellbeing of women, children, and vulnerable groups.
He particularly praised Governor Uba Sani for his visionary leadership and Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe for her consistent advocacy and investments in people-centered healthcare. Muhammad noted that the state’s progressive policies have positioned Kaduna as a model for other sub-national governments in advancing health sector reforms.
Highlighting some of the state’s flagship initiatives, including the Maternal Mortality Reduction Investment Initiative (MAMII) and the HOPE Project, Muhammad observed that these programmes have significantly improved access to essential health services across urban and rural communities.
He emphasised that sustained media engagement remains vital to ensuring accountability in health financing and effective implementation of government interventions. “The media serves as a bridge between citizens and policymakers. Through investigative reporting and advocacy, journalists can ensure that funds earmarked for Family Planning and MNCH are released and utilized effectively,” he said.
The parley also featured the unveiling of the Alliance for Kaduna Accountability and Strategic Advocacy (AKASA Network) — an accountability platform bringing together Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), coalitions, and advocacy partners working collectively to deepen transparency and promote inclusive governance in Kaduna State.
Muhammad, who was elected Chairman of the AKASA Network, charged members to leverage the platform for constructive dialogue, partnership-building, and collaborative actions that would strengthen governance and service delivery in the health sector.
