Rector of Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi, Martins Moses Agena PhD, has assured that he would give the necessary support for the sustenance of the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) programme at Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi, irrespective of the institution’s new status.

Dr. Agena gave this assurance yesterday, 26th June, 2024 while addressing a management meeting in his office. The meeting approved money for the immediate payment of IJMB regulatory fees to enable students of the institution participate in for their 2023/2024 session final examination.

The Rector while highlighting the need for maintaining the programme noted that IJMB is a perfect alternative to JAMB/UTME designed to solve the problem of admission into Nigerian universities.

He said although the mandate of the institution has shifted significantly from what it used to be since becoming a polytechnic, it would continue preparing students for direct entry admissions into universities due to the fact that many prominent Nigerians who have passed through it are excelling in diverse fields of human endeavours and that history does not only need to be preserved but also sustained.

Dr. Agena said the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia PhD has given him an ambitious mandate of driving the remodeling of the Polytechnic into an excellent technical and vocational institution that would become the hub for producing technically trained graduates who would not be roaming the streets in search of jobs at the end of their courses but would be self-reliant and useful in providing the skilled workforce for our industrial needs.

Therefore, he said both staff and students must not just buckle up their belts but also fold up their sleeves to be able to fit in and be useful to the system.

Dr. Agena concluded by inviting parents, guidance and school leavers who are aspiring to gain direct entry admissions into Nigerian universities to take advantage of the unique opportunity provided by the institution and enrol into the programme.
