Gombe State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Baba Alkali, has tasked the staff of the ministry on the need to have the vision and mission of the State Government at the palm of their hands.
The Commissioner gave the charge at the commencement of a two-day strategic plan review workshop for the ministry for 2024 to 2026.
Gombe State Government had developed a ten year development plan document for the State in 2021 known as DEVAGOM (2021 to 2030) and the Commissioner charged the staff on the need to align their plan with the State’s ten year plan.
According to the Commissioner, as the engine room that drives the development of the State, the ministry is so strategic that the staff must have at the back of their minds what the direction of the Government is.
He explained that the three year strategic plan for the ministry is so important to enable them be on a strong footing to plan for the entire State.
He said, “things are now different, it is not business as usual, as the strategic ministry that prepare, implement and monitor the State budget, it is incumbent to plan for the ministry”.
Key facilitator at the workshop, Ali Madina Dankumo (PhD), from the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, gave an overview for the Strategic plan.
He explained the concept and importance of understanding the vision, mission, core values as well as the the analysis of the ministry’s Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT).
The SWOT analysis helps in understanding the current situation and formulating strategies in the planning process.
Present at the workshop were the Permanent Secretary, Directors and and other key officers in the ministry.
