The Special Weapons and Tactics Unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps Taraba State Command has on Saturday rescued a kidnap victim identified as Jessica Eliu (18) at a check point around Kpanti Napu in Jalingo.

The victim was said to be on her way back home from church, which was situated around Yagai in Jalingo, when the ugly incident happened.

Addressing Newsmen at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Jalingo, the State Commandant Adamu salihu said the SWAT team was on their usual patrol which covers Specialist Hospital, Yagai, and Kpanti Napu areas when it decided to stop at Kpanti Napu Junction. It was while they were at the junction checking commuters coming from the Yagai axis that they noticed a lone car from afar slowing down to park. As they approached the vehicle the occupants pushed the victim out of the car and sped off in the direction they came.

Commandant Adamu added that when the patrol team saw what happened they rushed to the scene and on arriving there they discovered a young lady laying unconscious on the ground with her hands and legs all tied up. He said the team immediately rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo where she was resuscitated.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of her kidnappers after she regained consciousness, Jessica Eliu who has since been reunited with her family, said she was returning from church when she saw four men hanging around a Toyota Camry car and their appearance frightened her. “I tried to switch to another road but the men ran after me. One of them caught me and hit me with something metallic on my head and then covered my nose with a handkerchief, that was the last thing I could remember”, she said.

The Commandant used the opportunity to warn residents of Jalingo and environs to be weary of dark and lonely places especially at night as hoodlums are always lurking in places like that to perpetrate crime. He further admonished residents to report all suspicious people or activities to the nearest security agency, assuring them of NSCDC’s readiness to respond to security threat of any kind.
