The Kano State Government has called for enhanced civil-military relations and collaboration to foster peace and unity.
Speaking at the West African Social Activities (WASA) event hosted by the Commander of the 3 Brigade Infantry, Nigerian Army, at Bukavu Barracks in Kano, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening ties between the military and civilian population.
The WASA event, celebrated annually, showcases the rich cultural heritage of West Africa, bringing together military personnel, community leaders, and dignitaries in a spirit of unity and cultural appreciation.
Commissioner Waiya praised the Nigerian Army for organizing the event, describing it as a testament to the region’s cultural diversity and a platform for fostering communal harmony.
“It is inspiring to see initiatives like this that celebrate our shared heritage while bridging the gap between our soldiers and the communities they protect,” Waiya said. “These events remind us of the strength in our diversity and the importance of nurturing it for a brighter future.”
He also urged the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Tourism to extend its support for similar initiatives, highlighting their potential to promote peace, unity, and cultural understanding.
“Our soldiers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and stability of our communities. Events like WASA provide an opportunity to express our gratitude while fostering mutual respect and understanding,” he added.
The Commissioner expressed optimism that collaboration through cultural events could contribute to building a more cohesive and harmonious society across the continent. He reiterated the Kano State Government’s commitment to supporting the military in strengthening existing cordial relationships.
The event concluded with prayers for enduring peace and unity in Nigeria and Africa.
