Taraba Gov. Agbu Kefas vowed to Suspend Versity VC, Top Management Staff for lack of Transparency.

The Visitation Panel to the Taraba State University, set up by the Taraba state government to assess the university’s performance and make recommendations for improvement have submitted its report to Governor Agbu Kefas, faulting Prof. Sunday Bako, VC and top management staff.

The report was submitted on Wednesday 1st, May at the Exco Chamber Government House Jalingo.

The panel which was headed by the former speaker of the Taraba state House of Assembly Josiah Sabo Kente, noted that the Investigations conducted by the committee extended their findings to both the academic and non academic areas in the school.

Speaking with NEWSPOINTER during the presentation of the reports, the Chairman of the committee Josiah Sabo Kente said they have discovered lack of transparency in the recruitment process, of staff in the university, leading to an imbalanced staff composition.

The Chairman said, the Institution has 609 academic staff and 1,819 non academic staff.

Kente, recommended that a recruitment should be conducted for more academic staff to be employed in compliance with National University Commission’s guidelines, in order to address the situation.

He however called for the expansion of staff development programmes, to enhance the skills of both the academic and non academic staff in the school.

The report according to Sabo Kente, noted that the governing council of the University, lacks relevant qualifications, management experience, which resulted to internal governance discrepancies.

He also noted that the university occasionally bypasses NUC’s guidelines, jeopardizing programmes in the school.

Kente also noted that the Panel had also discovered irregularities regarding the financial management of the Institution including statutory allocation and the school’s internally generated revenue, which are not in compliance with appropriate regulations.

The committee recommended that an investigation be conducted to ascertain the financial management of the Institution while observing that due process be followed for transparency and accountability.

Receiving the report, the Governor, Agbu Kefas, reiterated that his administration will take decisive action regarding the outcome of the recommendations of the report.

According to the governor, If the report indicate or find anyone wanting or any wrong doing from the management of the Institution, the school management will be promptly suspended.
