The Kano State House of Assembly demands that the Ministry of Finance, as the custodian of the stabilization funds account, to periodically print out the statement of accounts of each Local Government in the state.

The state legislature made statement when the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Tukur Muhammad, presented the report on the financial year ended December 31, 2017, for the 44 Local Government Councils during the plenary session.

A member representing the Fagge constituency Tukur Muhammad stated that, printing out the statement of accounts of each Local Government would enable each council to reflect the correct end-of-the-year balance during the preparation of its annual accounts.

Highlighting the limited resources and increasing public demands, Tukur Muhammad stated that Local Governments should not solely depend on Federal grants but should also find ways to generate Revenue (IGR) to meet public demands.

Fagge urged the Ministry for Local Governments to transit from the old system of heads and sub-heads classification to the modern codes of accounts used by both state and federal governments.

He also emphasized that, proper maintenance and documentation of all financial transactions require strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations, following the principle of due process to ensure compliance with the genuine observations and recommendations of local councils.

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Tukur Muhammad, thanked Mr Speaker Rt Hon Jibrin Ismail Falgore for entrusting them with the assigned task and stressed that the outlined recommendations could guarantee transparency, probity, and accountability in the administration of total control of income and expenditure of public funds.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Jibril Ismail Falgore, commended the committee for a job well done.

The details of the house sitting was revealed by Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai in a press statement.
