Kano state Governor in Northwest Nigeria Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirm the commitment of his administration of empowering women and youths to become self reliant.
Governor Yusuf made this known while flagging off an empowerment programme for over 5000 women at government house Kano.
Governor Yusuf said, the gesture was part of his campaign promises designed to making women to become self reliant.
The governor noted that, his administration is determined to make small and medium enterprises a priority where women can drive business of their choice hence the emergence of the new empowerment package across the 44 LGA’s
He said 5200 women will be empowered with the sum of 50,000 thousand Naira each monthly, which will be selected from the 44 LGA.
Governor Yusuf noted that, “my administration has accorded women with honour and more programme would be ushered in to uplift their well being.”
The governor charge the beneficiaries to make adequate utilisation of the empowerment in engaging themselves in small and medium enterprises, geared towards ensuring economic development.
He said in an effort to uplift the well being of the women and the vulnerable, his administration has embarked on massive renovation of all the general hospitals in the state.
“It is an initiative and commitment to empower and reward women for their support. Politically, women have contributed largely to bring this government to power, despite intimidation, they stood firm to support NNPP. So we don’t have reason to abandon now that we are in government.
“The decision to approve the monthly allowance for women is not only to empower but to strategically invest in the social economic development and future of families in Kano. With N50,000 support to each woman we expect the beneficiaries to grow their small scale business and also help their family. We would sustain this initiative through out our stay in office”.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf noted that his administration was providing free maternal care to pregnant women in the state with the aim of addressing maternal mortality.
