Adamawa State is set to conduct local government elections on the 13th July, 2024, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Muhammed Umar, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Tuesday in Yola.
The Chairman stated that “as you aware, the tenure of the Local Government Councils has expired and it is the responsibility of the Commission to conduct new elections to fill in the vacancies as promulgated by law.
"Therefore, it is imperative and constitutional for the Commission to announce a new date for the conduct of the council polls."
Umar said that as enshrined in the Constitution, governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri during inauguration has given the commission the greenlight to kick-start the process of their mandate which is to organize, conduct and supervise elections into the Local Government Councils of Adamawa State.
Consequently, he noted that the Commission at its meeting on the 27th May, 2024 fixed Saturday 13th July 2024 as the tentative date for the conduct of the elections. Notices of the election into the offices of Chairmen and Councillors shall be published at the SIEC Headquarters and Local Government offices.
While Timetable/schedule of activities and timelines for the conduct of the elections will be released within the week,” he proclaimed.
