Trailer conveying 90 travelers claims 25 lives in Kano

A Trailer conveying ninety (90) people with Animals and motorcycles has claimed Twenty five (25) lives in a tragic accident in Kano.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps Kano Sector Commander, Ibrahim Sallau Abdullahi in a press statement by his spokesperson Abdullahi Labaran while confirming the incident said, the accident occurred on Monday at 0330hrs.

He said the fatal accident involved a trailer (IVECO) with registration number KMC 311 ZB at Dangwaro Flyover along Kano – Zaria Road.

The FRSC Commander explained that, the crash involved ninety people, with fifty-three injured and taken to Murtala specialist hospital Kano for medical attention.

Twelve people were rescued unhurt.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the probable cause of the crash was due to overspeeding and loss of control by the driver of the trailer.

The FRSC promptly mobilized rescue operations in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and other emergency response agencies”.

He said, six motorcycles, ten mobile phones, animals (rams & goats), maize, and the sum of four thousand naira were recovered during the rescue operations and handed over to police.

The Kano Sector Commander Abdullahi warns drivers and motorists against combining animals, goods, and human beings in a single transport system.

He said, Such practices not only endanger lives but also contravene traffic regulations designed to ensure road safety.

“The FRSC urges all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations to prevent further tragedies on our roads.”
