The President Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Taraba state chapter Comr. Baji Wakili Damunga has appealed for the payment of Salary arrears, annual increment and promotions, retrenchment, unnecessary deduction and salary stoppage for local government in the state among others.

Baji Wakili stated this during an interface with Taraba state Advisory Committee on Local Government Autonomy in Jalingo on Wednesday.
The Taraba state NULGE, President said the administration of Doctor Agbu Kefas had inherited 5 months arrears for staff under local governments in the state.

He appealed to the committee to look into the issue with a view of ensure the payment of the outstanding salary arrears.
“Clearing these arrears will restore confidence and ensure that Employees can focus on their duties without financial stress”- Baji Wakili said

Baji Wakili told the committee members that clearing of backlog of annual salary increment and due promotions for local government staff should be considered, saying all staff under local government in Taraba state had suffered stagnation in respect of annual increment and promotions.
He call called on the Taraba state to consider the full implementation of 2026, scheme of service for local government staff which gives opportunity for qualified staff to reach GL 17, in local government service as obtained in other state in the country.
He further appeal in strong term the recommendation of retrenchment to stop all unnecessary deduction of salaries or disciplinay action would be taken against any member without due process as contained in civil service as governed by the local government operations.

Earlier the Chairman advisory committee on Local Government Autonomy ,Abel Peter Diah says the new autonomy will have significant implications in the development at the grassroots.
Diah who is a member Representing Mbanmga Constituency at the Taraba State House of Assembly stated this during an interface with Union leaders and Stakeholders at the Conference Hall of Bureau for Local, Traditions and Chieftaincy Jalingo.
He said the idea of local government Autonomy goes beyond just changing Administrative structures as it represents a significant transformation in how to govern and provide public services.

According to the Committee chairman, as union leaders they are serving as a link between the government and the people safeguarding the rights of workers and advocating for social justice- Diah said
According to Diah Local government should adhere to higher standards of financial management, performance monitoring and public reporting to earn.
