Kwara L-PRES Trains 100 Farmers, Distributes Crop Residue Processing Machines
Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the livestock sector through increased investment in infrastructure and modern equipment.
He emphasized that these efforts aim to improve the livelihoods of farmers and ensure food security in the state.
This statement was made during the third batch training workshop for 100 farmers and extension agents on small ruminant production and crop residue processing, held at the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) in Idofian, Kwara State.
The event was organized by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, Governor AbdulRazaq acknowledged the challenges facing the livestock sector, such as climate change, disease outbreaks, and limited access to resources.
He said the state government is working to tackle these issues through capacity building and the provision of modern tools to enhance livestock management.
“Our livestock sector must evolve to meet the demands of our growing population while being mindful of environmental sustainability,” the governor said.
“By implementing best practices in animal husbandry, we can ensure healthier livestock, improved yields, and reduced environmental impact.”
The event also marked the official flag-off of crop residue crushers and pelleting machines to livestock farmers, part of the state’s strategy to boost productivity in the livestock sector.
Governor AbdulRazaq described the initiative as a significant step towards unlocking the full potential of the sector.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Jiddah, urged participants to take full advantage of the training, saying it would contribute to the economic growth of Kwara and Nigeria at large.
The lead facilitator, Dr. Akeem Ajeigbe, commended the governor for his support, urging the trainees to apply their new knowledge to address challenges in livestock management.
Participants, represented by Mrs. Abdulkareem Shukurat and Mr. Akani Tajudeen, expressed gratitude to the governor for empowering them with skills that will enable them to become self-reliant.
State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, also praised the state government, the World Bank, and the National L-PRES Office for their technical support and enabling environment for the project.
He expressed confidence that the trained participants would become job creators, further contributing to the state’s economy.
