Taraba council boss reaffirms commitment to development, financial discipline

Kurmi Local Government Council Executive Chairman, Hon. Moses Maihankali, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to serving the people and advancing the development of the local government.

In a statement, Maihankali outlined his administration’s focus on several key areas, including prioritizing critical expenditures, enhancing revenue generation, promoting budget discipline and transparency, reducing costs, and seeking external funding and grants.

He also emphasized capacity building for financial management to ensure long-term sustainability.

“As leaders entrusted with the responsibility of fostering grassroots participation in governance, I will ensure efficient and effective management to move Kurmi forward,” Maihankali said.

The chairman highlighted several essential services his administration is focusing on, such as healthcare, where free medical surgeries are provided, and education, with scholarships for medical and law students.

infrastructure projects like the renovation of the local government secretariat and the construction of market stalls, as made known by him, are underway to improve local commerce.

Maihankali explained that his administration is diversifying revenue streams by identifying new local taxes, levies, and service charges in line with legal frameworks.

Efforts, according to him, have also been made to improve tax collection mechanisms, enhance transparency, and curb leakages in revenue collection. Furthermore, public-private partnerships (PPPs) are being considered for funding critical infrastructure projects.

Speaking on the council’s budget, the chairman stated that his leadership is committed to realistic budgeting that reflects the council’s financial capacity, with strict controls in place to avoid unnecessary expenditures.

He announced that, he has also reduced operational costs by cutting non-essential expenditures, such as travel allowances, and is working to improve procurement and supply chain efficiency to prevent wastage.

As Kurmi enjoys local government financial autonomy, the chairman, also revealed plans to implement e-governance solutions aimed at reducing paperwork, cutting administrative costs, and improving efficiency.

His administration, as stated by him, is also actively seeking external grants and funding from federal government allocations, international agencies, and development partners.

To ensure long-term financial stability, he said, his team will focus on training staff in financial management, budgeting, and auditing practices to improve overall financial governance.

He called on the people of Kurmi to continue promoting harmony, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence within their communities as the council works towards a brighter future.
