The Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) on Friday unveiled its newly renovated Accidents and Emergency (A&E) Unit, a transformation made possible through the generosity of the Kefiano Global Foundation.
The event, which was graced by prominent health officials, community leaders, and medical personnel, marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s ongoing effort to improve healthcare services in Plateau State and beyond.
The revamped unit, which now boasts state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, was dedicated to the memory of the late Nana (Mama) Rhoda Danladi, mother of the Foundation’s CEO, Kefas Wungak
In her keynote address, Kachollom Daju, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, praised the Kefiano Global Foundation for its commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria.
“This renovation stands as a testament to the Kefiano Global Foundation’s unwavering dedication to the comfort and well-being of patients. The transformation of the A&E unit is not just a physical upgrade; it symbolises renewed hope and a brighter future for all who seek care in this facility.
She noted that the facility would continue to serve as a beacon of compassionate care, offering patients not only medical expertise but also a sense of dignity and peace during critical times.
In his speech,Kefas Wungak, the founder of Kifiano Global Foundation opened up about the personal tragedy that drove him to renovate and equip the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.
In a heartfelt speech he revealed that his mother’s death was a result of inadequate facilities and resources at the hospital.
He said despite the best efforts of medical professionals, his mother’s condition worsened, and she passed away. adding, the experience sparked a determination to make a tangible difference in healthcare.
The founder emphasized that the project is not just an act of charity but a call to action for individuals to contribute to societal betterment. He stressed that allowing the status quo to persist is unacceptable and that investing in healthcare is a collective responsibility.
He noted that the renovated facility is a legacy and tribute to his mother’s strength and the countless others who have faced similar challenges.
“The experience of watching my mother suffer, the frustration of seeing her health decline due to inadequate facilities, and the helplessness that consumed me in those moments left an indelible mark on my soul. The hospital, though staffed by hardworking medical professionals, was severely limited in terms of resources. The casualty and emergency units were overstretched and lacked the essential equipment needed to provide timely and effective care. Tragically, despite the best efforts of the doctors and nurses, my mother’s condition worsened, and she passed away.
“Is deeply personal tragedy that fuelled my resolve to make a tangible difference. In her honour, and in the memory of all those who have suffered due to insufficient healthcare, that I embarked on the project to renovate and equip the Accident and Emergency Unit”; the stated.
