In a significant milestone, 61 newly qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists from the 2023/2024 academic session of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, were formally inducted into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. The event, marking the institution’s 6th oath-taking and induction ceremony, was held at the university.
The Registrar of MLSCN, Professor Tosan Erhabor, presided over the ceremony and commended KWASU for securing full accreditation to run its Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) program for the next five years. He also announced the Council’s approval to increase the university’s admission quota for the program to 120 students annually.
“Let’s also congratulate you on your full accreditation to run the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) program for the next five years. It is a glorious accomplishment which should not be taken for granted. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and his team have played pivotal roles in this accomplishment, and we appreciate them,” Professor Erhabor stated.
He praised KWASU’s management for maintaining high standards aligned with MLSCN regulations, assuring the Council’s continuous support in the institution’s mission to train professional Medical Laboratory Scientists.
“Working with the Department of Medical Laboratory Science has been seamless and encouraging so far, indicating your commitment to the high standards MLSCN is known for. I urge you to keep up the efforts and the benefits will follow,” he added.
In his remarks to the inductees, Professor Erhabor emphasized the importance of professionalism and adherence to the Council’s rules, warning against misconduct that could jeopardize their careers.
KWASU Vice Chancellor Celebrates Milestone In his opening address, KWASU Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, commended the support of the Kwara State Government, highlighting the transformation of the Ilorin General Hospital into the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH). He described the development as a significant boost to the clinical training of students in medical and health-related fields.
Professor Jimoh assured stakeholders of KWASU’s commitment to producing skilled professionals for Nigeria’s healthcare sector, with the backing of the state government. Congratulating the inductees, he encouraged them to leverage their knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to society.
Out of the 61 inducted graduates, 24 earned Second Class Upper degrees, 36 received Second Class Lower degrees, and one graduated with a Third Class degree.
