Dr. Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba state has approved the creation of Ministry of Tertiary Education to cater for the needs of Tertiary education in Taraba state.

This is coming at the time Academic and Non-academic staff of the Taraba State University Jalingo (TSU), embarked on an indefinite strike to press for their welfare demands.
The strike action by the university workers could be seeing as an afront and a ridicule for the ‘free education policy’ of Governor Agbu Kefas for the people of the state.

It is largely believed that the university workers are pushed to the wall by the lack of the political will on the part of the state government in fulfilling agreement reached between the striking workers and the management of the University.
Further more, there are fellers that perhaps the creation of the Ministry of Tertiary Education is due to the inability of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin to handle issues of tertiary education in the state.

Investigation by NEWSPOINTER revealed that before her appointment as Commissioner, Dr. Augustina Godwin has never worked in any government or private organization after leaving the Catholic sisters school.
It therefore became obvious that she lacks the required experience to handle tertiary education matters since the structures of those institutions seems to be complex hence overwhelmed her leading to poor management of the crisis that caused an embarrassment and setback to the free education policy of the government.
It is also obvious that this unsavory situation has forced Governor Agbu Kefas to create the Ministry of Tertiary education to be overseeing by Professor Nicholas Nemessan, a serving Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in Taraba state.

This is another strategy emplored by the governor to address the lingering crisis that emboldened the state owned university.
A cross section of Tarabans who spoke with NEWSPOINTER in Jalingo, said most of the Commissioners in Taraba state lack the ability and experience to pilot the good vision of the Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas in moving Taraba state forward.
