The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kwara State Directorate, on Tuesday, commemorated the 2024 World Human Rights Day with a road walk aimed at enlightening Nigerians on their fundamental rights.

The event, which commenced at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Ilorin, saw participants walk through major locations such as ShopRite, Agric Junction, and Maraba Motor Park, drawing attention to the importance of human rights.
Addressing journalists during the walk, the Kwara State Director of NOA, Alhaji Dare Abdulganiyu, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting justice, equality, and dignity for all Nigerians.
He stressed the critical role of awareness in fostering societal peace and equity.

“Violation of human rights can lead to chaos and security breaches in the society,” Alhaji Abdulganiyu noted. “Nigerians must report violations to appropriate authorities and desist from taking laws into their hands.”
The sensitization campaign included the distribution of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, with messages delivered in local languages to ensure inclusivity and widespread understanding.

Barrister Jumoke Olaoye, the State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, alongside her team, actively participated in the event, emphasizing the collaborative effort required to protect human rights.
Support for the road walk came from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Federal Fire Service, and the Port Health Services, ensuring a smooth and secure procession. Students and youths from the University of Ilorin also joined the initiative, showcasing the role of young people in human rights advocacy.

Themed “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” this year’s World Human Rights Day highlights the urgency of safeguarding human rights in daily life. The event reinforced NOA’s mission to foster a culture of respect and awareness across Nigeria.
