A Kano businessman, Ibrahim Mukhtar Mohammed, has threatened to take legal action against the State Government over demolition of his multi -naira property located along Zoo road in Kano city.

Mohammed who made his position while addressing journalists near the demolished building alleged that, the property was demolished without prior notice by the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) despite following due processes.
He alleged officials of KNUPDA of taking money from him to design the building plan and supervising of the work but later demolished the structure.
“This was once a beautiful place we constructed, but you can see what happened as a result of the demolition exercise that was carried out by KNUPDA.

“We were not given any notice prior to this demolition. We just woke up one morning, that morning and found it in rubbles.
“My driving force for constructing this eatery is just to help our younger ones, our brothers, our children to get something, to get employment. I’m not here to make any money because of this thing.
“The loss incurred is about N20 million. So, I have called my lawyers. I have shown them what we have, what we did. So the lawyers are studying it, and by God’s grace, we will take legal action for that,” the businessman added.

Reacting to the allegations, the Managing Director of KNUPDA,Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, said the structure in question was demolished because it was illegally erected.
Adamu also explained that due process was followed in demolishing the building as the businessman was given notice three times but he did not respond.
On allegation of extortion by some officials of the agency in the matter, the managing director said the issue was being investigated and that anyone of them found wanting would be sanctioned.
