Bishop Mathew, the former chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Nasarawa State and ex-director general of the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 gubernatorial election, has urged Haruna Kigbu, a former member of the House of Representatives, to heed the call of the people and run for governor in the 2027 elections.

Mathew, who currently serves as the chairman of the Middle Belt Youth Forum, expressed confidence that Kigbu’s candidacy would bring positive change to the state.
In an interview, Mathew emphasized that the people of Nasarawa State have long been calling for leadership that prioritizes development, unity, and accountability. He stressed that Kigbu’s experience, integrity, and understanding of the needs of the people made him an ideal candidate for the governorship position. According to Mathew, the state requires a leader who can address its pressing challenges, including infrastructure development and youth empowerment taking a cue on what governor Sule has done so far.
“The people of Nasarawa State have been clamoring for who will take over from governor Sule to continue his works, and Haruna Kigbu is the leader they need,” Mathew said. “He is a man of proven leadership and has shown that he is dedicated to the progress of the state. It is time for him to answer the call of the people and step forward to serve as their governor.”

Mathew also highlighted Kigbu’s contributions to the state during his time in the National Assembly, where he was known for his advocacy on critical issues affecting Nasarawa State and the Middle Belt region. Mathew believes that Kigbu’s track record as a lawmaker demonstrates his ability to represent the people and work towards their interests at a higher level of governance.
Mathew’s call for Kigbu to run comes amidst growing political discussions in the state about the direction of leadership in the upcoming elections.
In conclusion, Bishop Mathew urged the people of Nasarawa State to rally behind Haruna Kigbu should he decide to contest, stating that the time for change has come. He expressed hope that Kigbu would listen to the people’s call and offer himself as a candidate who can deliver on the promises of a better, more prosperous Nasarawa State.
