The Kwara State Government has executed at least 190 developmental projects across the state’s three senatorial districts since 2023, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawiy Olododo, disclosed in Ilorin.

Speaking during the 45th edition of the media interaction series organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Olododo highlighted the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

He revealed that the state had paid a counterpart fund to the federal government for the construction of 209.77 kilometers of roads.

“The projects range from road rehabilitation to total reconstruction to ease movement for residents,” he said.

Among the roads completed or nearing completion are the 21-kilometer Esie road, 12-kilometer Ajase-Ipo road, and rehabilitated stretches such as the 2-kilometer Omu Aran-Oko road and 5-kilometer Oko-Oro Ago road. Other key projects include the Ilesha Baruba-Gwanara road.

Olododo also disclosed that the state fire service saved property worth ₦17 billion from fire incidents during the period under review, although losses of about ₦817 million were recorded.

In a bid to ease transportation challenges, the commissioner noted that the state government had commenced the conversion of vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to reduce transport costs. Additionally, the ongoing free transport service within the metropolis is set to expand, with plans to introduce more vehicles to cover new routes.

“The state government is focused on opening up Kwara through improved road networks to boost business activities,” Olododo added.

Earlier, NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Abdullateef, commended the government’s urban renewal initiatives, noting their transformative impact. “The projects have significantly enhanced Kwara’s status, making it a hub for business activities,” he said.
