The Omu-Aran Development Association (ODA) has expressed immense pride and joy following the Nigerian Army’s recognition of its President, Major General Lasisi Olayemi Abidoye (rtd.), with the naming of a building in his honour.

The newly commissioned “Major General Olayemi Lasisi Abidoye Block” highlights the retired officer’s remarkable contributions to the Nigerian Army and the nation. The unveiling ceremony underscores Maj. Gen. Abidoye’s leadership, dedication, and service, both in the military and within the community.

In a congratulatory statement issued on Saturday in Omu-Aran, the ODA Spokesman, Olayinka Owolewa, described the recognition as well-deserved.

“On behalf of the Olomu of Omu-Aran, HRH Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, the Olomu-in-Council, and the sons and daughters of Omu-Aran, we congratulate Maj. Gen. Abidoye on this significant milestone in his illustrious career,” Owolewa said.

The association further noted that the honour reflects the enduring impact of Maj. Gen. Abidoye’s contributions to both his community and the military. “We are proud to celebrate this achievement and look forward to many more years of service and leadership from Maj. Gen. Abidoye,” the statement added.

Maj. Gen. Abidoye, who joined the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1976 as part of the 20th Regular Course, had an illustrious military career. Rising through the ranks, he commanded the Ordnance Corps and held notable positions, including Nigeria Contingent Commander during the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Liberia.

Beyond his military achievements, Maj. Gen. Abidoye is a lawyer, businessman, and a devoted community leader who has consistently championed the development of Omu-Aran.

The Omu-Aran Development Association sees this recognition as an inspiration to continue striving for the progress of the community, stating that it is a testament to Maj. Gen. Abidoye’s unwavering commitment to his roots.
