A lawmaker in Kaduna, Amos Gwamna, has facilitated a free medical outreach for 100,000 less privileged individuals, including women and children, across eight Local Government Areas in the Southern Kaduna senatorial district.
The initiative, which is part of a Federal Government Constituency Intervention Project, aimed to address the chronic health issues that many in the region have faced due to financial constraints.
As the Chairman of the House Committee on Health Services, Gwamna organized surgeries for complex conditions such as fibroids, hernias, and appendicitis, and provided treatment for eye conditions like glaucoma and cataracts. The outreach also included the distribution of free reading glasses.
Dr. Livinus Yusuf, leading the surgical team, reported successful outcomes for all surgeries, and the team is committed to continuing care for all patients.
Community members, including former Councilor Samuel Audu, praised Gwamna for his efforts, highlighting that this initiative has been a much-needed relief for the community. Beneficiaries like Dorcas Mohammed expressed deep gratitude for the long-awaited help.
In addition to this, Gwamna, who previously sponsored a bill for the establishment of a Federal medical center in Southern Kaduna, reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare in the region.
He advocated for more healthcare facilities, including a 100-bed general hospital in Gwantu, to better serve the rural population.
