A vehicle loaded with assorted grains collided with a Christmas procession in Gombe on Wednesday afternoon, injuring 22 people.

The procession was headed to Gombe town for planned visits to the Emir’s Palace and the Governor’s residence.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver ignored instructions to divert and give way, causing the accident on Bauchi Road.
According to the Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the driver lost control of the vehicle, injuring 22 people without any fatalities.

The victims were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe and the State Specialist Hospital.
An angry mob burned the vehicle, while the driver fled the scene, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
Police, along with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), helped calm the situation, and a police patrol team ensured the procession’s safety.

The police urged the public to remain calm, and the State Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, announced that the victims would receive free treatment.
