The Gombe State Executive Council has approved the allocation of N4.205 billion for the payment of 2019/2020 gratuities to 2,204 retired civil servants in the state.

This approval follows the successful clearance of over N13 billion in gratuities for retirees from 2014 to 2018, benefiting thousands of retirees at both the state and local government levels.

The total amount spent on settling retirees’ gratuities under Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration has now reached N17.235 billion.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, highlighted the government’s commitment to consistent gratuity payments, which he described as a rare benchmark in comparison to the neglect retirees often face elsewhere in the country.

In addition, the council approved N31.547 billion for the construction of an underpass and 18.1 kilometers of road network to enhance connectivity between Yemi Osibanjo Road, the Central Business District (CBD), and the State Secretariat.

The project is expected to take 20 months to complete.

The council also approved the Gombe State 2025 Business Enabling and Regulatory Action Plan (BERAP), which is part of the World Bank’s SABER program aimed at improving the business environment in the state.

Furthermore, the Head of Civil Service, Armed Kasimu Abdullahi, commended Governor Yahaya for fulfilling his promise to clear gratuity backlogs, urging civil servants to remain committed to their duties.

Retirees were also encouraged to use their entitlements wisely to support their livelihoods and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
