Dangote Cement Plc’s Gboko Plant in Benue State has announced a significant increase in its bursary payments to the host community, particularly in response to longstanding requests from the Mbayion people.

The new bursary amount, which will be ₦22,800 effective from 2025, was disclosed by the acting Plant Director, Engr. Murusamy Murugan, during the presentation of the 2024 Dangote scholarship on December 31, 2024.

This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Yion Clan Foundation and the Yion Traditional Council, reflects the company’s commitment to supporting local education and development.

Engr. Murugan highlighted that the decision to raise the bursary amount followed repeated calls from the Mbayion people.

He emphasized that the company expects the funds to be used responsibly by recipients who merit the support.

According to Dangote Cement, it reiterated its focus on community development through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy and Community Development Agreement.

The Mue Ter Gboko, His Royal Highness Ikpa Ahua, expressed gratitude to Dangote Industries for addressing the community’s concerns and reaffirmed the community’s commitment to maintaining a strong relationship with the company.

He emphasized the positive contributions Dangote Cement has made to local livelihoods, particularly through employment opportunities.

The president of the Yion Development Association, Comrade Orver Yongu, also praised the company’s efforts, particularly its financial support for the recent Yion Day celebration.

Dr. Eugene Ivase, the outgoing Deputy General Manager of the Social Performance Department, assured the community that Dangote Cement would continue to prioritize their welfare and encouraged continued cooperation from the traditional leaders and elders.

This event underscores Dangote Cement’s ongoing commitment to fostering a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with its host communities.
