The Bauchi State High Court of Justice plans to expand its small claim courts to all twenty local government areas of the state in 2025, following the success of the courts in Bauchi and Azare.

The initiative, which began in 2022 with three small claim courts, aims to provide efficient, simplified procedures for handling liquidated money claims ranging from 1 to 3 million naira.

These courts allow litigants to represent themselves without the need for lawyers, with proceedings completed within 60 days.

Fatima Abubakar Esq, the Chief Registrar of the court, highlighted the positive reception of these specialized courts and mentioned the court’s growth in personnel, with 17 high court judges and 35 magistrates now serving.

In 2024, the court also moved all its operations to permanent sites, with several court complexes undergoing renovations.

Abubakar commended the state government for its continued support in enhancing the judicial infrastructure and providing a conducive environment for legal proceedings.
